Why Supporting Care Staff Wellbeing Matters More Than Ever in Social Care

Staff Wellbeing in Social Care

In care, supporting others is part of everyday life. But within such an emotionally demanding profession, it is equally important that those providing care feel supported themselves. At Braeburn Care, staff wellbeing in social care is not viewed as an optional extra – it is something we actively prioritise as part of building a positive, compassionate and sustainable care environment.

Recently, we brought our team together for a dedicated wellbeing session focused on stress and tension relief, creating space for our care professionals and office team to pause, reflect and focus on themselves for a change.

Held at the welcoming Angels Bowls Club in Tonbridge, the session was delivered by the fantastic Celia from Blossom Hypnotherapy, whose calm, knowledgeable and personable approach immediately helped everyone feel at ease.

The afternoon was centred around understanding stress, recognising how it impacts both mind and body, and learning techniques to help manage emotional pressure in healthier ways. Within social care, where professionals spend their days supporting others through illness, anxiety, loneliness and difficult circumstances, these conversations are incredibly important.

Understanding the Impact of Stress in Care

Stress can show itself in many different ways. Sometimes physically through tension, fatigue and headaches. Other times mentally through overwhelm, worry or emotional exhaustion.

During the session, the team explored how stress can influence not just a single moment, but an entire day – affecting confidence, concentration, patience and overall wellbeing.

One of the most powerful parts of the session involved demonstrating the true impact and power of the mind. Through guided exercises and relaxation techniques, Celia helped the team recognise how quickly stress can build, but also how effective the right tools and environment can be in helping people reset.

For many in the room, it was the first time in a long time they had properly stopped, slowed down and focused on themselves.

Creating a Positive Workplace Culture in Care

At Braeburn Care, we strongly believe that high-quality care begins with a supported and valued team.

The culture within a care organisation directly impacts not only staff wellbeing, but also the experience of the customers receiving support. Care professionals who feel listened to, appreciated and emotionally supported are often able to provide more confident, compassionate and person-centred care.

That is why initiatives such as wellbeing sessions, reflective conversations and emotional support matter so much within the social care sector.

Throughout the session, the atmosphere in the room noticeably changed. What began as a team arriving from busy schedules and demanding days gradually became a calm, connected and relaxed environment.

We said at the start of the afternoon that we wanted everyone to leave feeling calm, connected and fulfilled – and by the end of the session, that was exactly what had been achieved.

Thoughtful Wellbeing Support Beyond the Session

To continue the focus on wellbeing after the session ended, we also created personalised wellbeing gift bags for every member of the team – including those who were unable to attend.

Each bag included selected items designed to promote relaxation, comfort and emotional wellbeing, including:

  • Hand cream for self-care moments
  • Positive pocket hugs
  • Emotional regulation and relaxation cards
  • Anti-anxiety bracelets
  • Chocolate hearts
  • And of course, a Braeburn apple as a nod to our brand and wellbeing focus

While small gestures individually, together they reflected something much bigger – a culture where people feel recognised, valued and cared for.

Why Staff Wellbeing in Social Care Matters

The social care sector can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be emotionally and physically demanding. Supporting wellbeing within care teams is not simply beneficial for staff morale; it is essential for long-term sustainability, retention and high standards of care.

Investing in staff wellbeing can help:

  • Reduce burnout and stress
  • Improve confidence and resilience
  • Strengthen team relationships
  • Encourage open communication
  • Support positive mental health
  • Improve overall quality of care

At Braeburn Care, we are committed to continuing these conversations and finding meaningful ways to support our team moving forward. The overwhelmingly positive feedback received following the session reinforced just how valuable dedicated wellbeing support can be within social care.

Supporting Those Who Spend Their Days Supporting Others

Care professionals spend their working lives supporting people through some of life’s most vulnerable moments. Ensuring they also feel supported, appreciated and cared for is something we believe should remain a priority across the sector.

Our recent wellbeing session was a reminder of the power of simply taking time to pause, reflect and reconnect —-both individually and as a team.

A huge thank you again to Celia from Blossom Hypnotherapy for delivering such a meaningful session, and to Angels Bowls Club for providing such a welcoming community space for the afternoon.

At Braeburn Care, staff wellbeing in social care will continue to remain an important part of who we are and how we support both our team and the customers we care for every day.
