At Braeburn Care, winter wellbeing for Care Professionals is about more than staying warm. It’s about making sure the people who spend their days caring for others feel equally valued, supported and appreciated.
As the colder months approach, our Care Professionals continue travelling between customers’ homes, often working through chilly mornings, dark evenings and unpredictable British weather.
Their dedication doesn’t change with the seasons, but the challenges they face certainly can.
That’s why we’ve put together something special for our team this winter: a personalised winter wellbeing bag filled with seven carefully chosen essentials. It’s a small gesture, but one with an important message: we care about your wellbeing, too.
Why Winter Wellbeing Matters in Home Care
Working in domiciliary care is incredibly rewarding, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding.
Unlike care professionals working in one building, our team travels between customers’ homes throughout the day. During winter, that can mean navigating cold temperatures, wet weather, shorter daylight hours and busy schedules.
Yet, whatever the weather, our customers still depend on familiar faces, reassuring conversations and compassionate support.
We believe that looking after our Care Professionals is an essential part of delivering excellent home care.
When people feel supported and appreciated at work, it helps create a positive working environment where they can continue providing the high standards of care our customers deserve.
Seven Little Essentials, One Big Thank You
Every item in our winter wellbeing bags was chosen with our Care Professionals’ working days in mind.
Here’s what we included and why.
- Twinings Relaxing Tea – A Moment to Unwind: After a busy day supporting customers, sometimes the simplest comforts make the biggest difference. We included relaxing tea as a reminder to take a little time for themselves, enjoy a warm drink and switch off when the working day is done.
- Hand Warmer – Comfort Between Visits: Early mornings and winter evenings can be particularly chilly when travelling between care visits. A reusable hand warmer offers a little extra comfort when temperatures drop, especially for our Care Professionals who spend so much time out in the community.
- Lemsip – A Winter Cupboard Essential: Winter often brings coughs, colds and seasonal sniffles. We included Lemsip as a practical addition to our team’s winter essentials, with the reminder that rest and recovery matter too. Of course, anyone feeling unwell should follow our sickness reporting procedures and seek appropriate medical advice rather than feeling they need to work through illness.
- Antibacterial Hand Gel – Supporting Good Hygiene: In home care, infection prevention and control are important throughout the year, particularly during the winter months. A handy bottle of antibacterial hand gel is useful when out and about, complementing the handwashing and infection-control practices our Care Professionals follow during their work.
- Lip Balm – Protection Against the Cold: Cold air, wind and indoor heating can leave lips feeling dry and uncomfortable. A little lip balm might seem like a small addition, but it’s one of those practical items that can make winter days more comfortable.
- Olbas Inhaler Stick – A Refreshing Little Extra: We added an Olbas inhaler stick as another useful winter essential. It’s a small item that can be kept close at hand, offering a refreshing sensation when needed.
- Kleenex Tissues – Always Useful in Winter: Sometimes it’s the everyday essentials that are most appreciated. A packet of tissues is easy to keep in a pocket, handbag or car, making it a practical addition to our team’s winter wellbeing bags.
A Personal Message from Our Leadership Team
Alongside the seven essentials, every bag included a note from Harriet, Katy and Michaela.
It began:
“You spend your days caring for others, and we wanted to take a moment to remind you that your wellbeing matters just as much.”
Those words reflect something we feel strongly about at Braeburn Care.
Our Care Professionals are at the heart of our business. They build trusted relationships with customers, support people to maintain their independence and provide reassurance to families who rely on us.
Their work deserves recognition, not just on special occasions, but throughout the year. These winter wellbeing bags are one small way of expressing our appreciation.
Building a Workplace Where Care Professionals Feel Valued
Winter wellbeing for Care Professionals is also part of a much bigger conversation about employee wellbeing in the care sector.
Providing high-quality home care starts with building a team who feel respected, listened to and supported.
At Braeburn Care, we want our Care Professionals to know that their contribution matters and that the people behind the care are every bit as important as the service we deliver.
Thoughtful gestures don’t replace good management, communication or practical workplace support. However, they can help reinforce a culture of appreciation and remind people that their efforts are noticed.
As a growing home care provider serving Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks, Crowborough and surrounding communities, maintaining that personal connection with our team remains a priority.
Caring for Those Who Care for Others
Our winter wellbeing bags may contain everyday essentials, but the thought behind them is much bigger.
They’re a reminder to our team to take care of themselves, especially during a season when they’re busy looking after others.
And they’re our way of saying a sincere thank you for the kindness, dedication and compassion they bring to our customers every day.
Because at Braeburn Care, caring for people begins with caring for our own team.
