Celebrating International Day of People with Disabilities 2024

International Day of People with Disabilities

On 3rd December 2024, we proudly join the world in celebrating International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPWD). This year’s theme, “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future”, shines a spotlight on the incredible contributions, resilience, and capabilities of people living with disabilities, while also addressing the barriers they continue to face.

At Braeburn Care, we are committed to providing personalised, compassionate care that empowers individuals to live with dignity and independence. Every day, we are inspired by the determination, creativity, and courage of the people we support. Today, we want to amplify their voices and share in the vision of a more inclusive and equitable world.

Why IDPWD Matters

Globally, over 1 billion people live with disabilities, representing 15% of the population. International Day of People with Disabilities is an opportunity to challenge stereotypes, break down barriers, and celebrate diversity. It’s a reminder to policymakers, communities, and organisations like ours to prioritise accessibility, equal opportunities, and support for people with disabilities.

Our Role at Braeburn Care

Providing quality care means more than meeting basic needs; it’s about nurturing a sense of belonging and independence. From adapting services to suit individual requirements to advocating for inclusive policies, we strive to ensure that our customers are empowered in every aspect of their lives.

How You Can Get Involved

Here are simple ways to support IDPWD and their mission:

  1. Learn and Share: Educate yourself and others about the challenges and achievements of people with disabilities.
  2. Advocate for Accessibility: Advocate for policies and practices that create inclusive spaces.
  3. Celebrate Diversity: Attend events, support disability-friendly businesses, or volunteer with organisations that champion this cause.

Together, we can create a world where everyone, regardless of ability, is given the opportunity to thrive. Let’s celebrate the achievements of people with disabilities and continue working towards a future where inclusion is a reality, not a goal. If you’d like to discuss this further, contact our team today.
